Long-form pomodoro for deep work — 50 minutes in, 10 minutes off.

When 25 minutes is too short

Some work only gets going after twenty minutes — programming, writing, math-heavy problem sets. For that kind of work the classic 25/5 rhythm can interrupt you exactly when you reach depth. The 50/10 split keeps the pomodoro structure (a hard deadline, a real break) but gives each round enough room for genuine deep work.

Lofi Timer has 50/10 as a one-tap preset. Two rounds make a solid two-hour block — conveniently the length of one Lofi Cat mood mix.

How to use it

  1. Pick a station. Choose a 2-hour lofi mood mix — rainy night or morning café — and press play.
  2. Set your timer. Classic 25/5 pomodoro, longer 50/10 deep-work rounds, or your own custom intervals.
  3. Add your tasks. Write down what you're working on so each focus round has a target.
  4. Start. The countdown lives in your tab title, a soft chime marks each break, and the music keeps flowing.

50/10, 90/20, or custom

50/10 is a sweet spot, not a rule. Writers often like 90/20 (a full ultradian cycle); students revising for exams often drop back to the classic 25/5 when material is heavy on memorization. The custom mode takes any interval, and the timer counts with timestamps so a background tab never drifts.

Whichever split you choose, the 10-minute break is load-bearing: away from the screen, ideally on your feet. The chime will call you back.

FAQ

What is the 50/10 pomodoro method?
A long-form variant of the pomodoro technique: 50 minutes of focused work followed by a 10-minute break. It keeps the same work-to-rest ratio as 25/5 but with rounds long enough for deep work.
Is 50/10 better than 25/5?
Better for tasks with a high cost of interruption — coding, writing, design. 25/5 is better for getting started, for heavy memorization, or for days when focus is hard to summon. Many people mix both in one day.
How many 50/10 rounds a day is realistic?
Four to six focused rounds (about 3–5 hours of deep work) is a strong day for most people. Quality beats count — protect the breaks.
What should I do in the 10-minute break?
Anything that is not a screen: walk, stretch, water, a window. The point is to let attention recover so the next 50 minutes start fresh.
Can I set 90/20 or other custom intervals?
Yes — custom mode accepts any focus and break lengths, and remembers them for next time.
